SSU Professor Mariana G. Martinez Wins Seat on SRJC Board of Trustees

marianamartinezSonoma State University Professor Dr. Mariana G. Martinez has won a seat on the Santa Rosa Junior College Board of Trustees, garnering the most votes running against two incumbents. Martinez will represent the 3-4-5 district, which covers Rohnert Park, Cotati, most of Santa Rosa and several areas of unincorporated Sonoma County.Martinez (27,179 votes, 34.3 percent) and incumbent Don Edgar (27,129 votes, 34.2 percent) won seats on the board, defeating incumbent Rick W. Call (25,006 votes, 31.5 percent).

Martinez is an alumna of SSU and also works as a research coordinator for the McNair Scholars Program at Sonoma State. Her own education started locally at Lawrence Cook Junior High, followed by Elsie Allen High School and successive degrees from Sonoma State (B.A., Chicano and Latino Studies; Spanish), University of the Pacific (M.A., Education, Curriculum and Instruction), and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Ph.D., Education Policy, Organization and Leadership).
